More new projects – upcycled vintage boxes
Trying out some new projects this summer – it’s the perfect time for flea market finds! I found some great vintage jewelry boxes, cigar boxes and other interesting pieces. Here is the first try at painting, decoupage & upcycling!
This wood jewelry box is similar to one I’ve had since the early 80s. I started out by wiping down all of the surfaces and then the interior. The lining inside of the mirrored section and the boxes are in good condition, so I didn’t need to do anything more than clean it out. Then, a little sanding & let the painting begin! Using acrylics, I started with an off white base & layered sage green on top. Then I used a sealer to finish it. Since I couldn’t figure out how to remove the drawer pulls, I covered them with painters tape. The glass piece does come out, but I taped that too. Next time, I’ll use a tiny screwdriver to take out the glass so it will be easier & neater.
This vintage cigar box from Nicaragua was in good condition – just needed a bit of cleaning before I decoupaged map printed paper onto the lid (inside and out) and strips along each side. A coat of ModPodge on top and it’s a great little storage box or trinket box. There’s even little felt pads on the bottom.
